Great app!!

My 3 yr old son enjoys playing this game. Very intuitive for kids

Needs perfect penmanship

Too particular for a 3 yr old fingers. I can see shes drawing the letter correctly but it rejects minor imperfections.

Great app!

Im convinced that my 2 year old can write his letters now thanks to this app. It requires patience and concentration. I tried the free app which convinced me to get the paid version. The only thing I dont like about it is that the previous and next buttons are sometimes in line with the letters and my son oftentimes doesnt stop at the end of a line. If he happens to slide his finger across the next or previous button, his progress with that letter is lost. Despite this, Im really happy with this app.

Super!

This app is great for children to learn the correct way to print letters, however if they make an error, they get kicked out of the program and someone has to start it up for them again.

Double d

My daughter found this app very engaging. She really enjoyed using the iPad and this app specifically, to reinforce what she learned at JK. 3yr old son loves it...calls it his work.

Engaging but finicky

My son really enjoys the program, but gets frustrated when it recognizes his palm touching the phone when tracing with his finger, and then tells him he messed up. A bit too finicky in that regard. Other than that its a fine app to teach children how to write letters.

My favorite for 3-5 year olds

What We Liked: If you’re familiar with any Orton-Gillingham inspired intensive phonics programs, a lot of the methodology used by Pre-K Letters and Numbers will seem familiar to you. Not only is the letter name and formation of the letter taught, but the SOUND of the letter is presented right alongside that information. Even two letter teams are presented, which is a gem for a phonics-loving mom like myself. This developer has worked hard on the phonics, and they are very accurate, a rarity amongst educational apps. The ability to have multiple children use the same app and to have detailed statistics generated is incredible. I love how the statistics really help to focus in on any problem characters so you can target those for your child to practice further. You can have your child use their finger on this app, or buy a capacitive touch stylus which works like a finger on the screen of your iDevice but helps to develop those pen holding skills if your child is ready. My five-year-old started trying to write early, and she picked up some incorrect stroke directions. Teaching her to correct them has been a struggle though, she thinks she knows better than I do! With a step-by-step guided app like Pre-K Letters and Numbers, she’s basically forced to form the letters correctly, because each dot must be touched in the correct order to complete each character. This takes all of the conflict out of our penmanship lessons. Not only is she not arguing with me and telling me she knows how to make an “R”, but she’s also laughing when the funny block-headed animal corrects her! If she starts making her "R" incorrectly we do one session on "R" with this app and the next day shes forming it correctly when she writes her name! Even my three-year-old has really been enjoying this one, she carefully touches each dot one-by-one to form the strokes and laughs whenever an animal pops out to uh-oh! her. What We Didn’t Like: I’d like to see an easier way of selecting a character to work on, right now you need to move through each one in order to get to the next by tapping an arrow key – a selector tray would make it easier to work on trouble characters as identified by the statistics. Overall: The more I use Pre-K Letters and Numbers, the more I love it! This app has become my favorite printing app for the 3-5 year-old crowd. It is absolutely wonderful for teaching small children how to form their letters accurately with appropriate stroke direction as required by the dot-to-dot tracing method. Including phonics, multiple users, statistics, phonological/number concepts, and more - it really is a huge value for the cost and I can confidently recommend it!

Good material for this version

Great for kids 4 years or younger. Easy to play learning.

Fantastic

Great app. My 5 years old son loves playing with it. I love it because it encourage kids to learn letters and numbers in a good way. It does not accept if kids just trace it wrong which is good.

Great App in its simplicity and clarity!

My kids always seem to come back to this app for letter tracing, and theyve learned all of their letters and numbers with it too. This App gave them a great foundation and put them ahead of the other kids when starting school! Regarding the previous comments about difficulties tracing letters, it seems to be much improved in the newer versions.

Great for toddlers!

My 2 year old loves this game! Shes learning her letters so quickly with this app. Its really well made too!

The best apps

My son is 3 and have Autism. He love this apps! it helped him a lot with his motor skills and he learned his abc within a week. Apps support by bright start is fantastic!!!!

Great app but...

Why should such a easily formulated app cost? Shouldnt every child be able to learn? Should be free. Great app and my 2 year old is already able to do A-C, a-c, and 1-3 but I wish she could do the rest

Nice and easy to use app and reports for parents!

Great app for our kid who is starting to learn the alphabet and help with motor skills at the same time. I like how they have extended the app by providing reporting for parents. Great and fun to play and works well on my iPhone.

Easy to use

My 3 yr old likes this app so far. Easy to use and teaches concepts very well. Kudos for making the app not very complicated for kids!

Wow

Superb, finally someone has taken an educational app to the next level, the feedback and reporting are feature are solid additions, I can see my child improving motor skills at a more increased rate, i hope you make more apps, and your price is a bargain

Misleading that the app is FREE!

The free app only has 3 letters, its really $1.99 to access anything useful. It might be a good app if there was more flexibility in the letter tracing patterns, as my 3 year old grew discouraged by the constant negative reinforcement when her tracing was not completely perfect and EXACT!

Good idea but some annoyances

Good idea but it is very hard for a 4-5 y.o. to trace and stay within the letter/number. Also we did an in-app purchase on one iPad to get the full version. However, we were not able to get it on a second iPad that is linked to the same iTunes account. Once the above issues are fixed, this could be a 5-star app for pre-k.

picky!

my daughter loves doing her letters. and she liked this app. until we got to the letter o. this app. is way way too picky!! i watched her do a near perfect o and still it would make her start over. so i tried. it took me 5 times to make it around the o. ridiculous!!! please fix this and youll be a 4-5 star app!

Dont waste your time

This free app only lets your see the first three letters and numbers. It is so picky that for any beginner it is too difficult and and frustrating that it made my daughter cry.
